Typical Liposculpture Recovery Time

In less than a week, and usually only a day or two after Liposculpture, most patients are able to move normally and even return to work with mild discomfort. After a week or two, most feel comfortable enough to remove their compression garment and begin their new lives with more contoured, appealing figures. Liposculpture recovery time varies from patient to patient, but most return to normal activities after two weeks and experience optimal Liposculpture results over the next several months.

The First Two Weeks after Liposuction Surgery

At Hollywood Liposculpture we advise our patients to wear compression garments for at least one week after Liposculpture to decrease swelling and speed recovery time. Two weeks is recommended but not required. After Liposculpture, you may be able to move and walk. Patients should have someone else drive them home. Some patients report pain the day after their Liposculpture procedure. Usually, this discomfort is mild to moderate and may be relieved with pain medication. In the first several days after tumescent Liposculpture, the anesthetic solution from surgery drains from the incisions. This drainage is to be expected. It actually facilitates healing from Liposculpture by reducing swelling and fluid retention and reduces recovery time. Patients should take showers instead of baths for about a week after Liposculpture. During this time, swelling, bruising, and numbness will begin to go away.

The First Several Months

Swelling will continue to go down over the months after Liposculpture, and the final result will be revealed. The skin surrounding the treated area may seem loose, but it will tighten with time. Depending on the skin’s elasticity, which is a function of age and genetics, skin should tighten in six months’ time. Liposculpture patients will continue to monitor their incision sites in case of infection.  Recovery check-up appointments to monitor healing are important and we encourage patients to come in 30 days post-op. Patients are welcome to stop in at anytime during office hours to be seen. If a large area has been treated or a significant amount of fat has been removed, Liposculpture recovery time will be longer. Patients can maintain their new figures with frequent exercise and a balanced diet after Liposculpture.

Liposculpture Results

Final Liposculpture results will be visible 6 months to 1 year after the procedure. Liposculpture is most effective with improving the shape of your body; it is not meant for significant weight loss. Small pockets of fat unresponsive to exercise, however, can be effectively treated, and up to 5 liters of fat (nearly 1.5 gallons) can be removed in one day.  If you wish to have more than 5 liters of fat removed, then this can easily be done in multiple procedures.

Initial Liposculpture Results

Immediately after Liposculpture, the patient will see the results of surgery. Usually, up to 10 pounds of fat can be removed, resulting in a noticeably more pleasing body contour. Liposculpture can remove stubborn fat deposits from small areas for an aesthetic improvement, but should not be expected to dramatically alter your overall weight.

Initial Liposculpture results may seem minimal. This is standard, as swelling and bruising add to the recovery time that is necessary after Liposculpture to see the desired results.  We ask the patient to wear a compression garment to aid in recovery. This will help reduce the long-term effects of post-Liposculpture swelling, bruising, and scarring.

How Long Does It Take to See Optimal Results?

Swelling can last for weeks and often months after Liposculpture, obscuring the results of surgery. Skin in the treated area may also appear loose, as it takes time for your body to adjust to its new, more slender shape. It may take one to three months for swelling and bruising to subside and up to six months to a full year for skin to tighten over the area from which fat has been removed. The finished Liposculpture results should be visible after six months to 1 year.
